Federal PFAS regulations are now in effect to protect the public from “forever chemicals.”
In April 2024, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the first-ever nationally, legally enforceable drinking water standards for per- and poly-fluoroalkyl (PFAS) substances. Known as “forever chemicals,” PFAS doesn’t break down easily in the environment. Public utilities now have three years to sample for PFAS to determine if treatment will be required.
